When Do I Need a First Bra?
There's no set age for getting your first bra. Some girls start wearing one as early as 8 or 9, others not until their teens. Here are some signs it might be time:
- You notice your breasts are developing (buds forming).
- Your nipples show through your clothes.
- You feel uncomfortable without support when running or playing sports.
- You see other girls your age wearing bras and feel ready.
What Type of First Bra Should I Choose?

How to Measure for Your First Bra
Don't worry – measuring for your first bra is easy! Here's a simple guide to help you (and maybe a parent or friend) get the right numbers.
- Underbust (Band): Wrap a soft tape measure around your ribcage right under your bust. Keep it snug but not tight. Breathe out normally and write down the number.
- Bust (Cup): Wrap the tape measure around the fullest part of your chest (across your nipples). Keep the tape level and don't pull it tight. Write down this number.
